If you cannot participate, then you may transfer to another Mountain Man event in the same calendar year, or receive a credit of 50% towards a future Mountain Man event, but you must notify us in writing at racing@mountainmanevents.com, and you must qualify for one of the following scenarios:

  1. Regardless of the reason, if you notify us more than 30 days before the event, then you will receive a 100% credit towards a future Mountain Man event. If you notify us more than 7 days before the event (and less than 30 days), then you will receive a 50% credit towards a future Mountain Man event. This credit only covers the entry fee and not any additional service, processing, or USAT fees.
  2. As long as it is more than 30 days before an event, you can transfer to another Mountain Man in Event in the same calendar year or transfer your registration to someone else by going to ACTIVE, logging in, and selecting “Self-Registration” which gives you registration options. If there is a problem, then please contact us at racing@mountainmanevents.com.
  3. Extenuating circumstances: If you have an injury, death in the family, or medical emergency less than 30 days from the event, then you must submit a notification to us in writing and we will consider credits on a case-by-case basis. If you have a medical reason, then you must submit a written notice along with a doctor’s note that advises us that you are not able to participate. This notice must be received at least 72 hours before the event. No credits will be given without 72 hours and prior written notice.

This event goes on rain or shine. In the unlikely event of severe weather, the following procedure will be followed:

  1. Start times will be delayed/modified until the dangerous weather has passed.
  2. If the swim has to be canceled, then the race will change to a run, bike, run format.

If the entire event must be canceled due to an extreme event, or other natural or human emergency (including but not limited to pandemic, flooding, fire, etc.), then registrations will be shifted to a new event date, or participants can choose to receive a 50% credit towards any other future Mountain Man event.

Mountain Man does not directly work with the insurance provider and cannot provide a refund for this purpose. Please refer to the confirmation that you received from ACTIVE. The registration insurance is provided through ACTIVE and their providers, and they will be able to provide your refund for qualifying claims according to their policies.

When athletes purchase a USAT annual or one-day membership, a portion of those fees covers the cost to provide them with excess medical insurance. This coverage only extends to their participation in a USA Triathlon sanctioned event and is only available after the injured party has filed with any primary insurance policies. There is a medical support team present during our events. If you are injured during an event and are able, then please visit the medical tent for evaluation and treatment. If you are seriously injured and require additional medical treatment, then your USAT membership includes Athlete Excess Medical coverage. Process steps and claim forms can be found HERE.

We are excited to return to racing and have been working regularly with the USAT Return to Racing Guidelines as well as local officials and permitting agencies to help mitigate risks at our events.  These guidelines focus on social distancing, cleaning, and staying healthy. They are intended to help to ensure the safety of athletes, and the community – please be respectful of each other and our local requirements.

If you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, then please stay home, let us know, and we will get you transferred to a future race or reimbursed.

DO NOT ENTER THE EVENT VENUE IF YOU ARE ADVISED TO QUARANTINE OR ISOLATE ACCORDING TO CURRENT CDC GUIDELINES.

Mountain Man Events reserves the right to screen any person for COVID-19 symptoms and may refuse entry based on the results of such screening, as determined in its sole discretion.

General FAQs

Sorry, no race day registration. You can register on Friday or Saturday at packet pick up, but we recommend registering ahead of time.

Specifically for Deuces Wild:

Registration for Deuces Wild will be available at packet pick-up on FRIDAY only for the Saturday events, and FRIDAY and SATURDAY for the Sunday events. The only exceptions are our Youth Triathlon & Run events. We will have race day registration if spots are still available.

Absolutely! The earlier you register the more you save, and it gives you more time to plan out your training schedule.

Have you found that you signed up for the wrong race distance? Or you didn’t quite get in the training you hoped and want to switch distances? Or maybe even are nursing an injury and have convinced a couple of friends to join you in a relay instead?

No problem! Just go to ACTIVE.com and login to switch events. You will only be charged the difference in price if the new event costs more.

Cancellation Policy: There are no cash refunds.
For more details about extenuating circumstances, please visit our Cancellation Policies above.

Participants can manage and edit their registration up until 1 week before the race date. For details please check our Cancellation Policies above.

Our June Triathlons and Runs are at Fool Hollow Recreation Area in Show Low, AZ.

Our July and August triathlons are at the Upper Lake Mary Boat Launch and Picnic Area, just outside of Flagstaff, AZ.

Please check each event for directions and plan in time to park and walk to the starting area.

Deuces Wild/June – Limited parking is available for a fee at Day Use areas for all events. Passes must be purchased ahead of time via ACTIVE. All other parking is at Show Low High School where athletes and participants can park and ride a shuttle bus to the venue.

In July and August there are limited spaces available in the Lake Mary Day Use area that are first come first serve and sold by the venue. All other parking is along the shoulders of Lake Mary Road. It is essential for the safety of our athletes and spectators to park with tires completely OFF of the pavement and tell others if they do not comply. You may have a short walk from your vehicle to the race area. There are paved entrance driveways to enter transition from either side of the ramada area (please do not cut across the rocky hillside).

The temperature for the last 10 years has been between 69 and 71 degrees Fahrenheit. Wet suits are allowed.

Many of our swims now have a rolling start to help prevent safety hazards. In a rolling start athletes self select their spot in line. Your time does not start until you cross the timing mat. Be careful of rocks or other underwater obstacles when entering and exiting the water.

In some cases we may have a wave start. Wave start information will be announced closer to race day. Be sure to know which wave you are assigned to start with. If you are uncomfortable in the middle of the big group, then stay to the edges or give the main group a few seconds to get started before you go.

Transition Area will open for Deuces at 5AM on Saturday and 5:30AM on Sunday.

Transition Area will open for Mountain Man at 5:30AM (July) and 5:00 AM (August) and will close 10 minutes prior to the start of the first swim start.

All athletes must present a picture ID to pick up their packet. You can only get your own packet, not any other competitor’s packet. All timing chip pick up is on race morning.

Spectators can see the racers several times from the race transition area at the Lake Mary Boat Docks. Spectators may view other areas of the course, but must be sure to give space to athletes and park completely off of the pavement.

No fees, families are welcome. Come out on a beautiful day to enjoy the race. Please be aware of traffic and racers at all times and stay off of the course while viewing

Flagstaff has many wonderful options for food, outdoor exploration, and entertainment. Find out more on our general Event Details pages [July] and [August] or at http://www.flagstaffarizona.org/

Many people camp near the lake stay at one of the many local hotels, or rent cabins.

Little America is the feature hotel of the Mountain Man Triathlons.

Other Accommodations:

Several U.S. Forest Service campgrounds are located on the course. They don’t take reservations and are on a first come first serve basis. Also, camping is allowed anywhere in the Coconino National Forest (Flagstaff area) and in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest (Show Low area)  but not in the transition parking lots. Please check the forest service websites for any fire or camping restrictions.

Here are two websites to help you find other lodgings: http://www.flagstaffarizona.org/ and https://www.showlowaz.gov/129/Visitors.

Show Low has many wonderful options for food, outdoor exploration, and entertainment. Find out more on our general Event Details page or at https://www.showlowaz.gov/129/Visitors

Yes! Just be mindful that our course goes through private property. You should avoid these properties while pre-riding. On race day we have special permission from the owners to use their properties.

We have a bus that runs every 20 minutes from Show Low High School to the venue. You will park at the school and can ride the bus over. A lot of our racers just ride their bikes over to the race site. You can also have someone drop you off at the race site between 5AM and 7AM, but you will then need to use the shuttle or wait until events are completed for departure.
